South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) sophomore guard Taja Bennett was selected as the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) Division 1 women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the third time in the past four weeks. She was selected this time for the January 26th week and previously for January 12th and January 5th.
Bennett is only the second Jet or Lady Jet to earn Player of Week selections and she was the first and only SGTC women’s player to be chosen for this honor. Jalexs Ewing received the honor for the Jets on November 10, 2025.
Bennett scored 35 points and had 11 rebounds and four steals in a conference win against Andrew College on Saturday. In her previous selections, she averaged 24.5 points and 13 rebounds in two wins for the Lady Jets for the January 12th honor and averaged 19.3 points, and seven rebounds in three games for the Lady Jets the first week of January. She has started all 19 games for the Lady Jets this season and scored a total of 348 points. She is averaging 18.3 points per game.
The Lady Jets are currently in second place in the GCAA with a 3 – 1 record but are 8 – 11 overall. East Georgia State College is currently leading the conference with a 3 – 0 record. Andrew College is in third place with a 3 – 2 record followed by Albany Tech at 2 – 2 and Central Georgia Tech and Southern Crescent Tech with identical 0 – 3 records.
The Jets are scheduled to play at home on Wednesday, January 28th at 6 p.m. against Georgia Highlands. The Lady Jets will host Southern Crescent Tech at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, February 2nd in the hangar.
