SGTC National Technical Honor Society hosts book drive

Members of the South Georgia Technical College National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) hosted a local book drive that resulted in over 150 books being donated to the Methodist Home for Children located in Americus, Georgia.

The National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) is the honor society for Career and Technical Education (CTAE), recognizing outstanding student achievement in CTE since 1984. Having served over 1.2 million members in secondary and postsecondary chapters across the country and beyond, NTHS continues to support the next generation fo sills workers and leaders through chapter activities built around our Core Four Objectives of career development, leadership development, service and recognition.

SGTC NTHS Advisor and Biology Instructor Matthew Cowan along with NTHS members Patricia Rice and Katelyn Thorpe spearheaded the efforts and collected donated books and catalogued them according to appropriate reading levels for middle to high school aged girls.

Ella Jordan, Residential Director at the Methodist Home for Children in Americus, helped coordinate the Methodist Home for Children girls travel to SGTC and pick up the donated books.

“Overall the event was very successful with the Americus NTHS chapter having some books left over to use for another local book drive,” said Cowan.
