South Georgia Technical College 6’ 11” sophomore center Matt Mbole was selected as the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) Division I men’s basketball Player of the Week for February 2, 2026. He is only the second Jets player to earn this honor this season.

The Jets are riding a four-game winning streak and Mbole scored 19 points and had 19 rebounds along with two blocked shots in two conference wins this past week. He was also listed as the 11th best JUCO player in the initial JucoRecruiting.com Top 100 Player Rankings for the 2026 JUCO Class. These rankings are based on a combination of production at the JUCO level and the player’s projected performance at the next level, amongst other things.

Jalexs Ewing, sophomore guard, was the first Jets player to be selected for this honor. He is currently the Jets leading scorer and was also singled out by JucoRecruiting.com in their Top 100 Player Rankings for the 2026 JUCO class. He was ranked 70th. Ewing received the GCAA Player of the Week honors on November 10th, 2025.

In addition to those two Jets being recognized in the GCAA for their outstanding play, Lady Jets sophomore guard Taja Bennet has been recognized as the GCAA Division 1 women’s basketball Player of the Week, three times in the past five weeks. She scored 35 points, had 11 rebounds and four steals against Andrew College when she was nominated for the third time. She averaged 24.5 points and 19.3 points in her first two nominations.

Fans have the opportunity to see these three players in action this week. The Lady Jets host Southern Crescent Lady Tigers at 5:30 p.m. tonight (Monday/Feb. 2) at 5:30 p.m. in the Hangar and the men will host Gordon College at 7 p.m. in the Hangar on Wednesday, February 4th.
