Webster County Native Builds on Electrical Training Through SGTC Program

Rylee Wilkins, a Webster County native and 2023 high school graduate, is continuing to build her career in the electrical field after returning to South Georgia and enrolling at South Georgia Technical College.

Wilkins relocated from Phoenix, Arizona, where she earned a certificate of completion in Electrical Systems from Grand Canyon University. While a student at GCU, she worked as a facilities technician and, following graduation, was hired by K2 Electric as an electrical apprentice.

After returning to Webster County, Wilkins was encouraged by her uncle to continue her education. She connected with SGTC’s Office of Career Services, where Cynthia Carter learned more about her background as a non-traditional student. A subsequent meeting with Electrical Systems Technology Instructor Patrick Owen led to Wilkins enrolling in the Electrical Systems Technology program.

Most recently, Wilkins’ credentials and experience resulted in her selection as an intern with Global Cellulose Fiber in Oglethorpe, Georgia. She will complete a five-month Electrical and Instrumentation rotation while continuing her coursework and plans to graduate in December.

According to Owen, Wilkins entered the program as an accomplished electrical technician and has consistently demonstrated a strong desire to learn. He added that she has shown significant potential and is expected to do well as she continues her career.
