Jan Hobgood retires from South Georgia Technical College

South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford thanked Assistant Vice President of Adult Education Jan Hobbs Hobgood for her dedication and service to the college and the adult literacy program during a retirement reception held in her honor at the John M. Pope Industrial Technology Center on the Americus campus recently.
“We all wish you the best on your retirement,” said President Watford to Jan Hobgood who was present at the special event with her family, friends, Technical College System of Georgia Adult Education staff, and the SGTC faculty and staff. She retired with over 20 years of service to South Georgia Technical College.
“Thank you Jan for your dedication and service to our students. You and your staff have been dedicated in providing basic academic skills to those adults who need assistance or who are interested in GED test preparation, and adult literacy and workplace literacy programs. You have made a difference in the lives of hundreds of students and their families through your administration of the adult literacy program here at South Georgia Technical College,” said President Watford.
President Emeritus Sparky Reeves, Vice President of Economic Development Wally Summers, former Adult Literacy Director Joan Johnson, Schley County CLCP coordinator Faye Frazier, family members and many others took turns thanking Hobgood for her service.
Hobgood began her career with South Georgia Technical College in 1996 when she was hired as the Director of the Adult Literacy program on July 1. She was promoted to the Assistant Vice President for Adult Education on August 1, 2011. She reported to the Vice President of Economic Development Wally Summers.
As the Assistant Vice President for Adult Education at South Georgia Technical College, Hobgood was responsible for providing management of adult literacy services in five counties which includes organizing and maintaining an advisory committee, establishing and monitoring cooperative service arrangements with other agencies, and developing workplace programs for employers in basic adult education. The five counties served by the Adult Education staff at South Georgia Tech includes: Sumter, Crisp, Schley, Marion, and Webster Counties.
Hobgood and her staff also work with the Technical College System of Georgia Office of Adult Education and are required to meet the federal National Reporting System (NRS) goals and other specific directed activities. She also was responsible for the grant and budgeting requirements, overseeing expenditures for the overall program as well as hiring and supervising instructors and staff and maintaining the student records for the adult education program.
Prior to joining South Georgia Technical College, Jan Hobgood worked with Weyerhaeuser Company and Procter and Gamble 16 years as a Pulp Accountant, Lands and Timber Coordinator, Sales Analyst and Loan Coordinator.
She has a B. S. in Business (Marketing) from Georgia Southwestern College and also attended the University of Georgia.
She and her husband, Daryl, live in Plains and have two grown sons, Landon and Elijah.
