A new aviation maintenance scholarship was endowed in honor of South Georgia Technical College 1979 Aviation Maintenance graduate Dan Linginfelter by Hank and Sandy Linginfelter of Atlanta. The announcement was made during the Griffin B. Bell Convocation at South Georgia Technical College recently where Dan Linginfelter was the featured speaker. Dan Linginfelter is currently a senior airworthiness inspector for Gulfstream Aerospace. He was selected as the South Georgia Technical College Griffin B. Bell Convocation speaker for 2017 based on his outstanding career in the aviation maintenance field. He was recognized as the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) Distinguished Alumnus of the Year by Commissioner Gretchen Corbin in 2016 and was also spotlighted by Georgia Governor Nathan Deal at a “Taste of TCSG” event in Atlanta for his contributions to technical education through his aviation maintenance career. “Sandy and I are very excited to establish a new endowed aviation maintenance scholarship at South Georgia Technical College in honor of my brother, Dan,” said Hank Linginfelter. “Our whole family is so proud of Dan and his accomplishments. It is our desire to provide a scholarship in his honor to help other aviation maintenance students at South Georgia Tech pursue their educational goals.” “On behalf of South Georgia Technical College and the South Georgia Technical College Foundation, I would like to thank Hank and Sandy Linginfelter for their generosity” said SGTC President Dr. John Watford. “Their willingness to partner with our college and foundation serves two very important purposes. First, they have the opportunity to honor their brother and then almost as important, they have the opportunity to help other students pursue their dreams of becoming aviation maintenance technicians. We are so appreciative of their efforts.” The endowed Dan Linginfelter Aviation Maintenance Scholarship will provide at least one scholarship annually to deserving South Georgia Technical College aviation maintenance students. It will also guarantee indefinite educational opportunities that will impact students at South Georgia Tech for many years. “This endowed scholarship is a wonderful way for the Linginfelter family to honor their brother,” said South Georgia Technical College Foundation executive director Su Ann Bird. “We were thrilled that Dan Linginfelter agreed to come back and share his success story with our students at the Griffin Bell Convocation. But then to learn that Hank and Sandy Linginfelter wanted to continue Dan’s legacy through an endowed scholarship opportunity was almost unbelievable. This is a great day for South Georgia Tech and for our current and future aviation maintenance students.” Dan Linginfelter was surprised and humbled by the endowed scholarship. “This has been a wonderful day. Everyone has made me feel like I am on top of the world. I have the best family and I cannot thank them enough for doing this,” said Dan.
