SGTC Americus Campus PBL chapter hosts PBL-FBLA Leadership Day

Posted on
South Georgia Technical College’s Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) chapter of the Americus campus recently hosted a Leadership Day with Webster County Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) students. “One of the goals of the chapter was to increase FBLA interaction,” stated Academic Dean and PBL Advisor Dr. Andrea Oates. PBL officers and members elected to host a Leadership Day where they facilitated leadership skills by focusing on personal awareness, communication, and teamwork. Some of the activities included personality tests, communications drills, and teambuilding exercises. FBLA members had a final project of creating a Webster FBLA recruitment plan with the help of the PBL members and facilitators. Kierra Sparks of SGTC Admissions spoke with the group about Move On When Ready (MOWR) and admissions procedures at SGTC. The PBL members and facilitators who participated included Shannon Stewart of Americus, Racarda Blackmon (President of PBL) of Americus, Alicia English (Vice President of FBLA Interactions and Special Projects) of Americus and Dr. Andrea Oates (Academic Dean and PBL Advisor). The Americus Campus Chapter of Phi Beta Lambda was recently featured in the national PBL periodical, Future Business Leaders, and were one of five chapters (only chapter from Georgia) highlighted in the “Chapter News” section which featured PBL’s Season of Giving efforts, also acknowledging the completion of the Non-Stop November achievement. Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) are the largest business career student organizations in the world. The FBLA high school division has 215,000 members while the post-secondary division reaches over 11,000 college students. Phi Beta Lambda allows students to build a portfolio of documented accomplishments as a complement to their academic experience. The organization helps develop leadership, communication, and team skills that can be applied in the business setting.
