The South Georgia Technical College Jets suffered an 82 – 60 loss to the Gulf Coast Commodores in the Hangar recently to fall to 4 – 5 on the season. The Jets led by seven points early in the first half, but faltered in the second half and the Commodores closed that gap and added 22 more, Gulf Coast is currently 8 – 4 overall.
The Jets played a strong first half and were up 35 – 33 at the end of the first 20-minutes. However, Gulf Coast made adjustments at half-time and came back and outscored the Jets 49 – 25 in the second half.
The Jets shot 50% from the three-point line and 41.9% from the field in the first half. Gulf Coast shut them down in the second half with the Jets hitting only one of 11 three point-attempts for a 9.09% average. The Jets made eight of 30 shots in the second half to shoot 26.7% from the field. Overall the Jets were 13 of 22 from the foul line and committed 18 turnovers.
Camarion Johnson, a 6’ 4” freshman guard from Brunswick, GA, led the Jets in scoring with 13 points. He also had three rebounds. Kameron Forman, 6’ 4” freshman guard from Hartsville, SC, and Jefeth Martinez, a freshman forward from Roatan, Honduras, were the only two other Jets in double-digits with 11 and 10 points respectively. Martinex led the team in rebounds with 5.
Deonte Williams added nine points for the Jets and Mohand Ammad came away with seven points. Other Jets scoring were Vaughn Prosser, 4; Daryl Bod, 3; Ryan Djoussa, 2; and Justin Evans, 1. Andre Young and Jason Ellingsworth were the top scorers for Gulf Coast with 17 each.
The Jets will travel to Chattahoochee Valley Community College in Phenix City, AL on Saturday, December 9 for a 3 p.m. game. The Lady Jets will play at 1 p.m. there also. The Jets travel to Walterboro, SC to face USC Salkehatchie at 3 p.m. on December 19.
The Lady Jets will travel to Shelton State on December 15 – 16 for the Shelton State Classic and then return home on December 28 for a matchup with Snow College at 6 p.m. The Lady Jets Holiday Classic will begin December 29, 30, and 31 with the Lady Jets hosting Gulf Coast State College at 6 p.m. December 28, and St. Petersburg College at 6 p.m., December 29.
