South Georgia Technical College (SGTC), which offers an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program of study on both the Americus and Crisp County Center campuses, is introducing a hybrid classroom and online EMT course spring semester, which begins January 9, 2017. Open registration and orientation sessions will be held on both campuses on Thursday, January 5, 2017. In the new hybrid program, classes will meet once per week at the Crisp County Center for practical and testing. The online component of the course is conducted through Blackboard Learning. Basic EMT certification can be earned in two semesters, and the Advanced EMT certification can be earned in only three semesters. “Employers all over the state of Georgia are looking for qualified EMTs,” said SGTC EMT instructor Matt Hunt. “This career offers flexibility of days and hours, allowing you to continue your education or other pursuits, and it’s an excellent entry point for all health-related careers,” he explained. The EMT certificate prepares students to provide emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergency patients. The EMT is a critical early link from the scene of a medical emergency or traumatic incident to definitive healthcare. In order to be eligible for the program, the student must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, and possess a valid driver’s license.
