SGTC SkillsUSA competes in state competitions

South Georgia Technical College students recently competed in SkillsUSA state competitions held in Atlanta. Eleven contestants represented South Georgia Technical College and brought home four silver medals and one bronze medal. The students that received medals include: Bailey Mills of Cordele, silver medal in Aviation Maintenance Technology; William Manning of Americus, bronze medal in Aviation Maintenance Technology; Nathan Prince of Americus, Annie Streeter of Americus, and Stephaine Tyson of Americus, silver medals in Entrepreneurship Team. Other students that competed include: Stephen Simmons of Oglethorpe, Automotive Service Technology; Josiah Copland of Montezuma, Aviation Maintenance Technology; Rachael Johnson of Oglethorpe, Cosmetology; Brennan Morris of Americus, Culinary Arts; Destiny Baker of Ellaville and Kaitlyn Carpenter of Oglethorpe; Esthetics. The students’ advisors that helped prepare them for competitions included Carey Mahone, Victoria Herron, Charles Christmas, Dorothea McKenzie, Ricky Watzlowick, Mike Collins, Brenda Boone, and Jaye Cripe. SkillsUSA is a vital a solution to America’s skills gap. Annually, this student organization empowers more than 300,000 career and technical education students to achieve career success. SGTC Advisors work collectively to provide students with the personal, workplace and technical skills that prepare them to be Champions at Work.
