SGTC Student Life celebrates Halloween with Costume Contest and more
South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) students on both the Americus and Crisp County Center campus enjoyed a variety of activities celebrating Halloween, including a costume contest, pumpkin carving contest, pizza party, and Zombie Run. Students were encouraged to dress up in their scariest or most creative costume and enjoy a pizza party with their fellow classmates. Additionally, program areas showcased their pumpkin carving talents by submitting their entries to the pumpkin carving contest. Contest judges for the Americus campus contests included Gail Clary, SGTC Purchasing Technician; John Wilder, SGTC adjunct Automotive Technology instructor; and SGTC Board of Directors member Janet Siders. For the Crisp County Center campus, the judge was the DJ for the Halloween celebration, Ross DeCastro.
Drew Wohrley of the Aviation Powerplant program was the carver for the winning pumpkin in the Americus campus pumpkin carving contest. His pumpkin displayed the best carving skills of those submitted for judging.
Americus campus costume contest winners included: Destiny Baker of Ellaville, Burnt Pirate; Andrea Burton-Willis of Americus, Ladybug; and Brennan Morris of Americus, Pig in a Blanket. Dorothea Lusane-McKenzie’s Cosmetology class won a pizza party for their group costume effort, Cruella Deville and her 101 Dalmatians. For the pumpkin carving contest, first place went to the Aviation Powerplant program (Drew Wohrley of Americus was the pumpkin carver for the program), second went to Air Conditioning Technology, and third went to Aviation Airframe. Honorable mentions for the pumpkin carving contest included Criminal Justice Technology, the Marketing Management program, the O’Team, LIFE Lab, and General Education instructor Chester Taylor. Judging for the pumpkin carving contest focused on the carving skill displayed by each program.
For the Crisp County Center campus, first prize went to Dontavious Harrell of Cordele for his Jeeper’s Creeper costume; Josh Cook of Rochelle, who dressed as a matador, won second prize; and Ramona Williams of Cordele earned third place for her Witch costume.
