SGTC’s Paul Farr named Director of Business and Industry Services for Americus campus

South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford announced that Paul Farr of Americus has been named as the new Director of Business and Industry Services for the Americus campus. He will report to SGTC Vice President of Economic Development Wally Summers. He will begin his new duties immediately. Farr has been employed at South Georgia Technical College since 2007. He began working at SGTC as an adjunct instructor. He became a full-time instructor for English and Criminal Justice in September 2010. “Paul Farr has done an excellent job as an instructor in our Academic Affairs department and I am very pleased to be able to offer him this new opportunity in our Economic Development division,” said President Dr. John Watford. “He brings a wealth of business experience to this new position. He has proven his value to the college and I look forward to working with him in this new role.” Farr received a Bachelor of Arts in English with a Minor in History from LaGrange College. He graduated Cum Laude. He is also a graduate of the Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law with a Juris Doctor. He later returned to Georgia Southwestern State University and earned a Master of Arts in English with a focus on Critical Literacy and Communications. As the new Director of Business and Industry Services for the Americus campus, Farr will be responsible for working with the Vice President of Economic Development to develop business relationships for workforce development, manage existing business and industry training, identify service needs, and provide workforce development consulting and training. He will also help customize service plans, coordinate state economic development incentive programs, maintain cost effective operations and other duties as assigned. He will also continue to teach on-line courses for the college. “I am very grateful to Dr. Watford and South Georgia Technical College for this new opportunity,” said Paul Farr. “Working with business and industry and the community is a true passion of mine. I have enjoyed working with the faculty, staff, and students as an instructor and advisor, but I am also excited to be able to give back to the community by working with business and industry in this new capacity. I am pleased to be a part of such a great team here at South Georgia Tech.” Farr has been very active in the local community. He is a member of the Sumter County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, chairman of the Chamber Leadership/Workforce Development Division and is a past President of the Chamber. He is also a past president of the Rotary Club of Americus. Farr is a graduate of the Georgia Academy for Economic Development Class, attended the University of Georgia J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development, Leadership Georgia, and Leadership Sumter. He has also served as a member of the Americus First United Methodist Church Administrative Board. Paul is married to Holli, who teaches 5K at Sumter Primary School, and they have three children, Zach, Bailey, and Leslie Anne.
