Walmart recruiters share employment opportunities with SGTC students

Recruiters from Walmart recently visited South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) students to talk about employment opportunities with the company, including full-time and part-time opportunities, and entry level, mid-management, and supervisory positions. John Davis, Store Manager of the Walmart location in Americus; Paul Thomas, Ethics/Compliance Regional Manager; Angelic Holmes, Personnel Coordinator; and other Walmart employees spoke about their careers at Walmart and the benefits of working for the company. Depending on the time of year, there are 15,000 to 50,000 job openings at Walmart, and in the United States, the average full-time wage is $12.81 per hour. Currently, part-time openings at the Americus store location include Inventory Team, Electronics Sales Associates, Day Maintenance, Toy Sales Associates, Frozen/Dairy Sales Associates, and Overnight Stockers. Full-time positions include Infants Department Manager and Lawn & Garden Department Manager. About 75% of Walmart’s store management teams started as hourly associates and they earn between $50,000 and $170,000 per year today, said Davis. Every year, Walmart promotes about 160,000 people to jobs with more responsibility and higher pay. Walmart’s turnover rate is lower than the retail industry average, and 300,000 people have over 10 years of service to the company. Walmart offers competitive pay and benefits, including health care plans, education assistance, retirement plans, and training and development opportunities. They offer quarterly cash bonus opportunities to eligible hourly store associates, 401k, a 10% store bonus, and advancement possibilities. Additionally, Walmart has pledged to hire any honorably discharged veteran within his or her first twelve months off active duty.
