Cassidy Mathews of Vienna was recently honored as the South Georgia Technical College Crisp County Center Student of Excellence for the spring 2025 semester. Mathews is in the Early Childhood Care and Education program and was nominated by program instructor Cambrette Hudson.

As the overall winner, Mathews received a $50 check, an engraved personal plaque, a congratulatory letter from SGTC President Dr. John Watford and a “Student of Excellence” t-shirt.  Her name was also engraved on a perpetual plaque that is displayed in the front lobby of the Crisp County Center.

Other students nominated for the award were Angela Craft of Cordele, Accounting Technology, nominated by Tammy Hamilton; Michael Harris of Cordele, Air Conditioning Technology, nominated by Mike Enfinger; Andrew Cranford of Vienna, Business Technology, nominated by Nicole Turner; Layla Brown of Cordele, Criminal Justice, nominated by Wanda Bishop; Brianna Mauldin of Sycamore, Culinary Arts, nominated by Johnny Davis; Nicholas Lanneau of Cordele, Electrical Systems Technology, nominated by Jeff Sheppard, Alandria West of Unadilla, Medical Assisting, nominated by Carol Cowan; Joseph Yarbrough of Cordele, Computer Information Systems, nominated by Wendy Prince; Ashley Rhodes of Pineview, Practical Nursing, nominated by Brandie Chappell; and Jeremy Gonzalez of Vienna, Welding and Joining Technology, nominated by Tom Mayo.

The SGTC Crisp County Center Student of Excellence award is given each semester to one student based on criteria such as grades, participation in clubs and organizations, work ethic, and program completion. Instructors nominate students who excel in these areas.
