Seven students in the South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program were recently honored during a ceremony held in McLain Hall on the SGTC campus.

The group began their studies in January and completed the rigorous program this semester. Each student successfully fulfilled the program requirements and received a certificate recognizing their accomplishment.

The students recognized were: Gloria Barnett Robinson of Buena Vista, Symia Coles of Americus, Jaelyn Hunter of Preston, Cecilia Luna of Americus, Kamiria Morris of De Soto, Sheena Saint of Americus, and Timisha Walker of Americus.

“I started with seven students, and I’m proud to say all seven completed the course,” CNA instructor Janice Wiseman said. “They came in bright-eyed and ready to learn. They’ve worked really hard and proven themselves as true professionals. Many will use this as a stepping stone to go further in healthcare.”

SGTC President Dr. John Watford congratulated the students and spoke about the vital role CNAs play in patient care. “I’ve seen firsthand how important nursing assistants are. They are the heart of healthcare—the ones who provide comfort, companionship, and care every day,” he said. “This certificate represents more than just coursework completed; it’s a gateway to making a real difference in people’s lives.”

Watford also encouraged students to consider continuing their education by enrolling in the Licensed Practical Nursing program at SGTC. “The foundation you’ve built here can lead to even greater opportunities,” he said.

Instructor Wiseman commended the students not only for their academic achievements but also for their dedication. “Through snow days, schedule changes, and long hours, these students showed perseverance and commitment. They’ve demonstrated the fortitude needed to succeed in healthcare.”
