South Georgia Technical College Student Government Association (SGA) and National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) students attended the Georgia Fall Leadership Conference in Atlanta at the Crown Plaza Hotel and presented 52 books to the “Books For Keeps” organization as part of the group’s service project.
SGTC Student Government Association President Jesse Cadenhead, along with students Greg Hester, A’Neya Mack, and Cheyenne Wiggins attended the conference with SGTC Career Services Director Cynthia Carter, SGTC Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs Josh Curtin, SGTC Admissions Coordinator Macy Williams and NTHS Advisor and Instructor Matthew Cowan.
All of the NTHS chapters in the Technical College System of Georgia were asked to collect donated books for this event. SGTC’s Greg Hester acted as a general body member of the NTHS and was accompanied by the Americus Chapter Advisor Matthew Cowan and Cordele Advisor Macy Williams. The SGTC NTHS will also donate books locally to the Methodist Home for Children.
The theme for the conference revolved around being the Trailblazers their communities need for them to be today. The SGTC Student Government Association represented their organization by attending the SGA state meetings and commenting on SGTC SGA Advisor Josh Curtain and Megan Whitworth’s Leadership Power Hour discussion panel titled, “Words that Win: Public Speaking Skills for Any Occasion.”
This discussion panel even empowered SGA members A’Neya Mack and Cheyenne Wiggins to engage in extemporaneous speaking with various other SGA members from across the state. SGA President Jesse Cadenhead also shared the current state of affairs of the SGTC SGA chapter to the state officers and shared the initiatives being implemented on the campus.
SGTC’s Greg Hester also attended the keynote speaker Shannon McKain’s discussion panel titled, “Developing Your Personal Brand for Success.” He learned how to construct a future business brand and how to increase loyalty in products in his discipline of study, which includes automotive and recreational vehicles.
