
Kimberly Reid, a partner with the law firm of Lawson & Reid, LLC, in Cordele, Georgia, has been named to the South Georgia Technical College Foundation Board of Directors. As a Foundation Trustee, Reid will participate in advising, governing, overseeing policy and direction, and assisting with the leadership and general promotion of the SGTC Foundation.
Reid has been selected to serve on the Foundation’s Finance and Audit Committee. She has been selected to serve a three-year term and can be reappointed for additional terms. William “Ben” Dupree of Americus is the current Foundation Chairman, Rick Whaley of Americus is the Vice Chair and Mike Cheokas is the Treasurer of the Foundation. Bill Harris is the immediate past chair and those four individuals form the Foundation’s Executive Committee.
Kimberly is a native of Buena Vista, Georgia, where she was raised on her family’s farm with her four sisters. She enjoyed growing up in a small town in South Georgia and graduated summa cum laude from Georgia Southwestern College. She then attended Mercer University School of Law, where she received her J.D. with honors.
As a partner with the law firm of Lawson & Reid, LLC, in Cordele, her primary practice areas are business law, government law, and commercial litigation. She was a partner in Gardner, Willis, Sweat & Handelman, LLP in Albany, GA, prior to forming her current firm with her law partner, Rick Lawson.
Kimberly met her husband of 27 years at Georgia Southwestern and they have a 17-year old son.
The SGTC Foundation is designed to support South Georgia Technical College through marketing, advocacy, friend-raising and fundraising to benefit college programs, faculty, and students. As a Foundation Trustee, Reid and the other members of the Foundation Board will support the Foundation and provide mission-based leadership. While the day-to-day operations are led by the Executive Director, the Board-Executive Director relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected. Su Ann Bird is the SGTC Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Executive Director of the SGTC Foundation.
The SGTC Foundation is currently preparing for its annual fund drive, TechForce 2025, which will be held September 15 – 26. The theme for the drive is “Creating Opportunities at SGTC.” The drive will be raising funds for scholarships for academically deserving and financially disadvantaged students and the use of textbooks at no cost for all students. The drive will also help support the new LPN to RN Bridge program and the other medical programs on both campus and provide renovation and technology updates for the James S. Peter Gymnasium on the Americus campus.
