Marion County Day Camp students tour South Georgia Tech
Marion County students learned about how to program robots in Computer Information Systems and learned about the human body in the Medical Assisting programs. They also enjoyed visiting the aviation maintenance, automotive, and electronics classes as part of their tour.

Approximately 30 students participating in the Marion County Day Camp this summer had the opportunity to tour South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) and see all of the educational programs that SGTC has to offer.

“One of the goals for this day camp is to help the youth of Marion County to recognize the possibilities that exist for them, especially in their communities,” said Larry Franklin, Director of the Marion County Day Camp.  “I wish I would have known about technical colleges during my time in middle and high school.  I would have attended SGTC before attending Georgia Tech.

“I appreciate South Georgia Technical College and Tylen Pepito, SGTC Recruiter, for allowing us to tour the campus and many of the programs.  This is a great opportunity for Marion County youth to see all that South Georgia Technical College has to offer, especially to come to college and get in a diploma or degree in one to two years is amazing!”

South Georgia Technical College has over 200 associate degree, diploma, and technical certificate of credit programs available.  SGTC has also just been selected as one of the 25 technical and vocational schools in the nation by USA TODAY.

The Marion County youth toured the aviation, aircraft structural, auto collision, automotive repair, cosmetology, computer information systems, electronics, industrial systems, industrial electrical, medical assisting, motorsports, and other programs as part of their tour.

SGTC is “creating opportunities” for the individuals in Sumter and surrounding counties by providing the best in workforce education.  If an individual has a dream career, SGTC can help provide a firm foundation for that individual to succeed.

South Georgia Tech is currently registering for Fall Semester.  Classes start August 18th.  A special registration and orientation day will be held on Wednesday, August 13 on both the Americus and Crisp County campuses.  To apply now, visit www.southgatech.edu and click on the Apply Now button on the top right-hand corner of the home page.  SGTC has open admissions and does not require individuals to test to apply and be accepted.
