SGTC Agricultural Technology Program Advisory Committee Holds Fall Meeting

The advisory committee for South Georgia Technical College’s John Deere Agricultural Technology program recently held its fall meeting on the Americus campus to discuss program updates, industry trends, and continued workforce alignment.

During the session, SGTC instructors Matthew Burks and David Cox provided updates on the program’s curriculum, student progress, and related developments. Advisory members then shared valuable industry insights and offered guidance to help ensure the program remains aligned with current and future workforce needs.

Committee members in attendance included David Bostic, Service Development Manager for John Deere; Mike Williams, Service Manager for AgPro; Lee Johnson, Territory Customer Service Manager for John Deere; Joseph Delaney of Dobbs Equipment; Jody Branch of Lasseter Tractor; Stephan Brooks of SunSouth; and Kim Walden, Recruiter for AgPro.

Representing South Georgia Tech alongside Burks and Cox were Julie Partain, Vice President of Academic Affairs; Dr. David Finley, Academic Dean; Katrice Martin, Grants Coordinator and Director of Institutional Effectiveness; and Tami Blount, Partnership Coordinator and Economic Development Assistant.

The John Deere Agricultural Technology Advisory Committee plays a critical role in guiding the program’s continuous improvement. Members assist faculty by offering feedback on curriculum updates, emerging technologies, equipment standards, internship and employment opportunities, and industry salary expectations for graduates.

Advisory committees across SGTC serve as a vital bridge between education and industry, helping instructors stay informed of changing technologies and workplace expectations—ensuring students are well-prepared for career success upon graduation.
