South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) Career Services Director Cynthia Carter recently led a resume writing workshop for cosmetology students in Adrienne Clayton’s summer semester class.
The session focused on the importance of a well-crafted resume as a marketing tool for job seekers. Carter emphasized that resumes should give potential employers a clear picture of a candidate’s experience and skills, while aligning with the specific requirements of the job.
Carter told students that a resume should highlight their strengths, demonstrate consistent job history, and reflect a pattern of progression and increased responsibility. “It’s your chance to make a strong first impression,” said Carter.
Students learned how to tailor their resumes to match job postings, internships, and other career opportunities, and how a strong resume can help secure an interview—the next critical step in the hiring process.
