Students from the South Georgia Technical College Cosmetology program recently volunteered their time and talents at a breast cancer screening event hosted by the Dougherty County Health Department in Albany. The event, which offered free breast cancer screenings to the public, was part of an initiative to promote awareness and early detection.
As part of their community outreach, the SGTC students provided free nail polish services to attendees, adding a personal and uplifting touch to the event. Their participation helped create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for individuals undergoing screenings.
The effort was coordinated by SGTC Cosmetology Instructor Trainee Adrienne Clayton in collaboration with Brooke Stewart, County Nurse Manager at the Dougherty County Health Department. Together, they worked to emphasize the importance of preventive care and community engagement in the fight against breast cancer.
By participating in events like this, South Georgia Technical College students not only sharpen their skills but also contribute to important public health initiatives. Observed nationally each October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a time to promote early detection and support ongoing research into the causes, diagnosis, and treatment of breast cancer—something SGTC students were proud to support through service and outreach.
