SGTC Marketing Students Showcase Real-World Skills Through Digital Media Project

Posted on

Students in the Marketing Management program at South Georgia Technical College recently presented the results of a comprehensive class project to an audience of faculty and administrators on the Americus campus. The presentation highlighted the students’ ability to apply classroom concepts to real-world marketing strategies.

Representing the class, students Christian Thompson and Qwantavis Milledge shared key elements of the project with Accounting instructor Brenda Boone, Business Technology instructor Sharon Smith, Computer Information Systems instructor Veronda Cladd, and Academic Dean Dr. David Finley.

As part of the project, students were responsible for planning, filming, and editing original video content, as well as creating social media posts using industry-standard content creation tools. Their work was published across social media platforms, giving them practical experience in digital marketing and audience engagement.

Students also designed and administered surveys to collect data from their peers and analyzed the results to better understand consumer preferences. One component of the project included conducting a “Coke vs. Pepsi” taste test and a brand-name versus non-brand chip comparison. The findings were used to produce short videos and social media reels that showcased audience reactions and data-driven insights.

In addition to their research and content creation, students produced a video featuring interviews with Academic Dean Dr. David Finley, demonstrating their skills in conducting interviews and applying professional video editing techniques.

Marketing instructor Mary Cross said the project was designed to give students hands-on experience in multiple areas of the field. Through the assignment, students developed skills in social media strategy, content production, data collection, and analytics.

Upon completion of the project, students will earn a Technical Certificate of Credit in Social Media Marketing and Content Marketing. The presentations reflected both their creativity and their ability to translate classroom knowledge into practical, career-ready skills.
