South Georgia Technical College recently hosted a well-attended Financial Literacy Workshop for students on its Americus campus, emphasizing the importance of building strong money management skills. The workshop was held in the Hicks Hall student center and drew an engaged crowd of more than 50 students eager to learn how to better manage their finances.
The featured speaker for the event was Charlene Pennymon, a Loan Officer at Citizens Bank of Americus, who brought years of experience and practical insight to the session. Her presentation covered a broad range of financial topics with a focus on helping students prepare for real-world financial responsibilities.
Pennymon stressed the importance of maintaining strong credit, explaining how credit scores can impact future decisions such as buying a car, renting an apartment, or applying for loans. She also covered fundamental topics such as budgeting, saving, responsible borrowing, and accurate recordkeeping—all essential tools for achieving financial independence and security.
