Microsoft Word Application Specialist (MW11)  Technical Certificate of Credit


The certificate program provides students with the knowledge and skills to perform work processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications in an office environment. It is designed to provide hands-on instruction for developing foundation skills for office assistant careers.

Entrance date: Each semester

Program Admission Requirements: A High School diploma or equivalent is required.
Achievement of appropriate scores on the college's placement test or submission of acceptable SAT or ACT scores are currently being waived.

Applicant must be at least 16 years of age.

COMP 1000

Introduces the fundamental concepts, terminology, and operations necessary to use computers. Emphasis is placed on basic functions and familiarity with computer use. Topics include an introduction to computer and digital terminology and usage,operating systems, internet and digital communication, word processing applications, spreadsheet applications, database applications, and presentation applications.

CIST 1102

CIST 1102 introduces the touch system of keyboarding placing emphasis on correct techniques. Topics include learning the alphabetic keyboard, the numeric keyboard and keypad, building speed and accuracy, and proofreading. Students attain a minimum of 20 GWAM (gross words a minute).

Prerequisite: COMP 1000

This course provides students with knowledge in word processing software. Word processing topics include creating, customizing, and organizing documents by using formatting and visual content that is appropriate for the information presented.
