SGTC announces Ready, Set, J.E.T (Jobs, Education, Training) Initiative

South Georgia Technical College has announced the implementation of the Ready, Set, J.E.T. (Jobs, Education, Training) initiative, which is the topic for the college’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). The initiative will align with the mission of the college, which is workforce development. The plan will also include the goals and objects of the strategic plan. The QEP topic is deep rooted in institutional planning related to date from Institutional Effectiveness reports, minutes, and analysis. It involves broad-based efforts from a variety of ky individual and grounds on campus, as well as stakeholders like advisory board members, industry partners, and students. It will focus on student success in the areas of increasing retention, and graduation rates of Technical Certificates of Credit (TCC), diplomas, and degrees, whicl decreasing official and unofficial withdrawal rates. The institution hopes to achieve this by strengthening two widely identified core soft skills, communicating effectively and setting S.M.A.R.T. (Specific, Measurable, Achieveable, Realistic, and Time Bound) goals.

A QEP Design and Implementation committee has been named, and they have informed SGTC faculty, staff, students, and the college’s Board of Directors about the plan’s progress and details.

The QEP committee consists of broad-based representation of South Georgia Tech employees, and that committee includes Chair Teresa McCook, Criminal Justice Instructor; Institutional Effectiveness Director Katrice Martin, Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs Josh Curtin, Academic Dean Brett Murray, Registrar Kari Bodrey, Special Services Disabilities Coordinator Jennifer Robinson, Financial Aid Director Kelly Everett, Administrative Services Director Danyel Reid, Cosmetology Instructor, Law Enforcement Academy Administrative Assistant Melissa Grantham, Electrical Systems Instructor Jeff Sheppard, Nursing Instructor Christine Rundle, and Culinary Arts Instructor Ludwig Watzlowick.

The SGTC QEP, Ready, Set J.E.T.! (Jobs, Education, and Training) plan defines the following outcomes:

  1. Student Success Outcome #1 – The QEP will decrease unofficial and official withdrawals by 0.5% each year of the QEP total of 2.5% overall for students.
  2. Student Success Outcome #2 – The QEP will increase student retention rate by 1% each year of the QEP for a total of 5% overall.
  3. Student Success Outcome #3 -The QEP will increase completion of technical Certificates of Credit (TCCs), diplomas, and degrees by 1% each year of the QEP for a 5% increase overall.
